Safety Rules

  • Your route guide includes instructions on how to complete your route. While we strive to provide the most accurate and helpful guidance, route conditions can sometimes change. Please use your best judgment in the field. For instance, if one side of your route has overgrown grass while the other is clear, it may be more efficient and safer to work from the clearer side.
  • Teams should move together as a group while cleaning. Stay within 10 feet of another person at all times.
  • Everyone must wear their provided safety vests at all times.
  • If it’s icky, use your picky. If you come across something you don’t want to or shouldn’t pick up by hand, use your trash grabber.
  • Each team will be equipped with a Sharps container. If you come across any needles or items that are considered biohazardous, please use your trash grabber and dispose of these items safely into your Sharps container.
  • Do not walk on the roads. Do not go into the road to pick up trash. Stay on the grass or sidewalk at all times.
  • Work your route against traffic.
  • Designate one person as a traffic watcher to ensure oncoming vehicles see your group and use the provided safety flag to signal them.
  • If anyone is injured, please call 911.
