Tidy Up Tomball Event: Record-Breaking Participation Plans Hindered by Weather, but Success Shines Through
TOMBALL, TEXAS, June 8, 2024 – The second Tidy Up Tomball event was set to break participation records, with nearly 500 community members signed up to help clean the streets of Tomball. However, severe weather forced two reschedules—once due to flooding from severe thunderstorms and again after the Houston derecho. Despite these challenges, the event was finally held on June 8, 2024, on a particularly hot summer day.
While the timing led to a decrease in volunteer turnout, with 119 dedicated participants, the cleanup effort was still a major success. Volunteers collected a total of 2,000 pounds of trash, five large debris piles, and filled 36 bags with litter. The Tidy Up Tomball committee had prepared as if the original number of 500 volunteers would attend, allowing the team to refine logistics for larger events. This planning sets a strong foundation for the upcoming fall event, where a high turnout is anticipated.
“We’re incredibly proud of what we accomplished despite the weather and scheduling setbacks,” said the event organizers. “Our community showed up, rolled up their sleeves, and made a visible difference. It’s this commitment that will drive the success of our future events.”
A special thank you goes to our Community Partner, the City of Tomball Public Works, as well as the Tomball Police and Fire Departments for ensuring the safety of all participants. We are also grateful to our sponsors for their unwavering support.
